Flat Rock Playhouse, The State Theatre of North Carolina, seeks an Intern to join its seasonal production team. Employment period would begin May 11th, 2020 and go through November 15th, 2020. ,

Flat Rock Playhouse is a 500 seat Equity Union theatre located about half an hour South of Asheville, NC. What began as a few weeks of summer performances in 1940 is now a nine-month season including Broadway musicals, produced musical reviews, comedy, drama, and theatre for young audiences. The Playhouse\x92s dual mission of producing the performing arts and providing education in the performing arts includes a professional series, a summer and fall college apprentice and intern program, year-round classes and workshops for students from kindergarten through adults. ,

The Intern reports to the Assistant Costume Shop Manager to construct, alter and maintain all of the costumes for the Leiman Mainstage. Intern will assist the Wardrobe Supervisor in running show and laundry. Intern will Assist Resident Costume Designer in fittings. The Stitcher reports directly to the Assistant Costume Shop Manager and Costume Shop Manager staff of: Assistant Costume Shop Manager, Costume Shop Manager, Wardrobe Supervisor, Stitcher/First Hand, Interns, Apprentices, Students, and Volunteers. ,

Candidates must present adequate skills in sewing for garment construction and alteration with an eye for detail and quality finishings. Candidates should be confident working in both the costume shop and running show backstage. Candidates should possess excellent organizational skills and have the ability to listen and take notes. Most successful candidates have a variety of interests that might also include hair and makeup, run of show, millinery, crafts, and laundry science. ,

Salary for interns is Minimum wage $7.25/hr. Dorm style housing is included. Average work week is 40 hours. Overtime is time and a half after 40 hrs. The work environment is positive, challenging, and holds a high artistic integrity. ,

Be pursuing or possess a 4 year degree in Costume technology or the equivalent. ,

Willingness to learn new skills ,
,
Experience supervising students is a plus,
,
Ability to work independently ,
,
A positive attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work well under pressure is extremely important. ,

A team player who is serious about his or her role on a production team, but also knows how to have fun.,
