Job Description

Design Foundry, an event design and decor company based in Hyattsville, MD, is looking to add to its growing shop staff to assist with the construction of scenic and decor elements for a variety of events. Shop hours are Monday \x96 Friday, 8am \x96 5pm, with some night and weekend opportunities for overtime available. Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have 3+ days a week of availability for our busy season which runs March \x96 June.,

The ideal candidate has experience in or knowledge of scenic construction, and a general knowledge of the installation and rigging of scenic materials. Ability to work well in teams, multitask, take direction, and problem solve will be important qualities to have for this role. Some preferred skills are rough and finish carpentry, mig welding of steel or aluminum, laminate application, and basic electrical knowledge. Duties include:,

- Fabricate scenic elements, using DF construction standards, to the specifications provided by shop leadership. ,
- Finish construction projects (filling holes, sanding, etc) to meet requirements of the paint shop, or the shop lead,
- Meet with the Project Lead about the needs of all events. ,
- Verify that all projects are built to the drawings. ,
- Collaborate and consult with the Scenic Shop Foreman regarding the construction of a set piece.,
- Assist the Scenic Shop Foreman in managing shop space and tools.,
- Assist the Scenic Shop Foreman in ensuring that the Company\x92s Health and Safety Policy are adhered to,
- Advise any practice associated with the Production which may be considered as being unsafe.,
- Assist the Scenic Shop Foreman in the housekeeping of the Shop and Paint Area,
- Other duties as assigned.,

Essential Job Functions: ,
- Capable of climbing ladders and carrying at least 75 pounds,
- Ability to work calmly under pressure,
- Ability to multitask,
- Knowledge of power tools including table saw, chop saw, miter saw, band saw, etc.,
- An efficient and flexible approach to meet targets and deadlines,
- Open to performance feedback and a desire to continue learning and professional development,
- Willingness to work longer days and weekends to complete projects as needed,

Desired Skills + Abilities ,
- 3 + years experience in Theatrical Carpentry or Event Production,
- Knowledge of OSHA and all state and local safety requirements,
- Knowledge of Lumber Grades and laminating materials,
- Ability to open and read a 3D AutoCAD drawing,
- Have basic electrical wiring and knowledge of LED lighting preferred,
- Be able to perform MiG welding of steel + aluminum preferred,
