Opera Saratoga, formerly Lake George Opera, began with a production of Die Fledermaus at the Diamond Point Theatre on July 5, 1962, playing to an audience of 230. The Company now calls Saratoga Springs, New York home and performs for more than 25,000 people annually during the Summer Festival, as well as through community engagement programs year-round. The 2020 Summer Festival under the leadership of Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson, will feature 3 different productions: The Pirates of Penzance, Sky on Swings, Madama Butterfly; as well as a wide variety of concerts at diverse venues unique to the region.,

THE POSITION ,
,
The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) is contracted as a full-time resident position for a period leading into, during, and after the Summer Festival. For the 2020 Season, he/she will be required to be in residence from May 27th to July 8th. Outside of the resident period, he/she completes task as needed on a limited basis remotely.,

RESPONSIBILITIES:,
,
PRE PRODUCTION,
\x95Communicate with the Technical Director (TD) and Production Manager (PM), for each production to determine feasibility and ,
resources needed for each production,
\x95Assist the TD with preparing/drafting technical working drawings as assigned,
\x95Assist with sourcing any materials and/or equipment needs for the season ,
,
PRODUCTION - IN RESIDENCE IN SARATOGA SPRINGS May 27th to July 8th,
,
\x95Assist the TD with budget estimates for scenic elements for on-site building,
\x95Work with the TD and PM to keep all scenic elements within budget,
\x95Assist with drafting construction drawings as assigned,
\x95Coordinate, in partnership with the Technical Director and Production Manger, the setup of scene shop facilities in ,
theater,
\x95Assist with Securing and overseeing purchases of all needed materials ,
\x95Assist with Developing the build schedule for on-site builds in coordination with other departments, and assisting in ,
adjusting the build schedule as production needs change ,
\x95Supervise and participate in the build of scenic elements,
\x95Supervise and participate in the installation of scenery built off-site ,
\x95Coordinate and lead load-ins, changeover schedules, scenic repairs with the TD,
\x95With guidance from the TD, supervise scenic crew and carpenter interns,
\x95Assist in coordinating with other department heads to make sure all crew needs are met,
\x95Attend all production meetings, technical rehearsals, and other rehearsals as needed,
\x95Maintain all scenic elements during production periods,
\x95Ensure a safe, clean, and organized workspace, including all storage areas,
\x95Other duties as assigned by the TD or PM,

POST PRODUCTION: ,
\x95Under the direction of the TD, supervise the load-out of all three productions and disposal or storage of each,
\x95Supervise the restoration of all theater spaces and the return of all Opera Saratoga stock,

QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED SKILLS,
,
The Assistant Technical Director will bring a strong appreciation of Opera Saratoga\x92s mission and a desire to positively both impact the organization\x92s long-term success and enhance the quality of productions presented by the company. He/she must have the following skills and experience:,
,
\x952+ years\x92 experience as Assistant Technical Director, or 3+ years\x92 experience as a Head/Lead Carpenter working in ,
professional opera and/or theater,
\x95Computer proficient (MS word, Excel, Vectorworks, or AutoCad, and internet file sharing),
\x95Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking to overcome challenges,
\x95Well-developed communication skills,
\x95Experience in a supervisory position and leading crew calls,
\x95Maturity and understanding of the artistic process and excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and diplomacy skills,
\x95Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail,
\x95Comfortable working at heights from Genie lifts, ladders and scaffolding.,
\x95Capable of lifting at least 50 lbs,
\x95Driver\x92s License required,
