ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND ,

Opera Saratoga, formerly Lake George Opera, began with a production of Die Fledermaus at the Diamond Point Theatre on July 5, 1962, playing to an audience of 230. The Company now calls Saratoga Springs, New York home and performs for more than 25,000 people annually during the Summer Festival, as well as through community engagement programs year-round. The 2020 Summer Festival under the leadership of Artistic and General Director Lawrence Edelson, will feature 3 different productions: The Pirates of Penzance, Sky on Swings, Madama Butterfly; as well as a wide variety of concerts at diverse venues unique to the region.,

THE POSITION ,
,
The Props Master is responsible for the coordination of all props needs for three main-stage productions during the months of June and July in Saratoga Springs, NY. The Props Master is contracted as a full-time resident position for a period leading into, during, and after the Summer Festival. For the 2020 Season, he/she will be required to be in residence from May 21st to July 8th. Outside of the residence period, he/she will complete tasks as needed on a limited basis remotely. RESPONSIBILITIES: ,

PRE-PRODUCTION ,
\x95Communicate and consult with Directors, Designers, and Stage Management staff to accommodate prop needs for rehearsals and performances,
,
PRODUCTION - IN RESIDENCE IN SARATOGA SPRINGS May 21st to July 8th,
\x95Supervise and collaborate with the Props Assistant,
\x95Create budget estimate for all props and set dressing,
\x95Work with the Production Manager to comply with props\x92 production budget,
\x95Keep track of all costs, receipts, and charges for props,
\x95Present weekly budget update to Production Manager ,
\x95Ensure rehearsal props are available as requested by Directors and/or Stage Management staff in a ,
timely manner ,
\x95Work with artists to develop their understanding and usage of ,
props. ,
\x95Work with the Director, Designer and Stage Management of each production to develop a complete list ,
of all props and set dressing needs ,
\x95Coordinate the borrowing, rental, and/or purchase of props ,
\x95Determine materials and methods for construction, with ,
particular responsibility for the safety of the audience, cast and ,
crew throughout all phases of props construction, installation ,
and use. ,
\x95Participate in the running of each production and all changeovers ,
\x95Attend all production meetings, technical rehearsals, and other rehearsals as needed ,
\x95Maintain and repair all props during production period ,
\x95Prepare production documentation for each opera,
\x95Other related duties as assigned,

POST PRODUCTION: ,
\x95Ensure all rented or borrowed props have been returned after closing ,
\x95Participate in the restoration of all theater spaces and the return of all Opera Saratoga stock ,

QUALIFICATIONS AND DESIRED SKILLS ,

The Props Master will bring a strong appreciation of Opera Saratoga\x92s mission and a desire to positively both impact the organization\x92s long-term success and enhance the quality of productions presented by the company. He/she must have the following skills and experience: ,
\x95Experience as a Props Master, working in professional opera and/or theater; ,
\x95Computer proficient; ,
\x95Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking to overcome challenges; ,
\x95Well-developed communication skills; ,
\x95Maturity and understanding of the artistic process and excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and ,
diplomacy skills; ,
\x95Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, rapidly changing ,
environment; ,
\x95Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail; ,
\x95Ability to lift at least 50 lbs,
\x95Comfortable working at heights from Genie lifts, ladders and scaffolding.,
\x95Driver\x92s License required ,

COMPENSATION, TRAVEL AND HOUSING,

Competitive compensation based on experience. Travel stipend, and housing during the Summer Residency period is provided. ,
