Jefferson Performing Arts Society is seeking interns specializing in COSTUMES for our 2020 Summer Youth Musical Theater Intensives.,

JPAS offers a well-rounded internship covering all technical and administrative theatre specialties, allowing eager young individuals to expand and grow in various directions while gaining practical hands-on knowledge of specific interests.,

Our fast-paced Summer includes three productions with 40-70 children in each production. Ages range from 3rd grade to 12th grade. We offer a challenging and high-quality musical theater education to our children. In our program we provide a safe, encouraging and inviting space for our children to express their talent and imagination. With that approach, we aim to make sure we give the same amount of attention to each child through costuming. ,

Primary duties of the costume intern are to assist in the creation of all costume elements under the direction of the Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer. This offers the opportunity to help in bringing all designs to realization in the areas of Costumes, Hair, and Makeup. Regular working hours are M-F, 9am-5pm. During production, working hours may vary depending upon the current production\x92s need, but will consist of no less than 40 hours per week. Day to day activities include building costumes, building crafts, costume alterations, pulling costumes from stock, and assisting Costume Designers to realize designs. Costume interns will also have the opportunity to work backstage as wardrobe crew.,

JPAS interns will work with numerous designers, directors, child actors, and teams to create our summer productions. Interns will gain hands-on experience working in JPAS\x92s three main theatre facilities and our 4000+ sq. ft. Costume Shop. We are located just a short drive from Downtown New Orleans.,

Desired Skills:,
,
-Experience machine and hand sewing is MANDATORY, as it is a primary duty of the internship,

-General Knowledge of Costume Alterations is recommended,
,
-Experience working on or heading a wardrobe crew is a plus,
,
-Experience with pattern-making/draping is a plus,
,
-Ability to work individually and as part of a team,
,
-Ability to think creatively to solve problems,
,
-Ability to lift 50 lbs.,
,
-Ability to work a changing schedule of long hours over extended periods of time,
,
-Experience and passion to work with children is recommended,
,
-A valid US driver\x92s license is recommended,
,
