Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Technical Director, the Shop Foreman serves as chief carpenter and fabricator of scenery, is the immediate supervisor of the shop technicians, and serves as a collaborator with the Technical Director and Designers in sharing ideas and methods of producing scenery and making that scenery operational. ,

Shop Foreman Responsibilities: ,
,
\x95Implementing and maintaining safety standards with regard to work in the scene shops, performance spaces and storage areas. ,
\x95Assist in the construction and mounting of stage scenery for all productions and special projects. ,
\x95Overseeing good and safe day-to-day working conditions in the scene shop construction area and other work areas and the general appearance of those areas. ,
\x95Upkeep and maintain PPE equipment inventory. And make suggestions to the Technical Director for new safety equipment. ,
\x95Issuing daily work assignments to all shop personnel and in association with the Technical Director, ensuring shop schedules are met. ,
\x95Along with other Technical Staff members, instructing and working with volunteers in areas of set construction and operation and care of scenery. ,
\x95Be available after hours for emergency troubleshooting and repairs of scenery and stage equipment as needed. ,
\x95In association with other scene shop staff members, ensure secure storage and proper use of Artisan Center Theater property. ,
\x95Immediate supervision of technicians + volunteers during load-ins. ,
\x95Assist in post-production strike and storage/disposal of scenic elements. ,
\x95Conduct shop orientation of new technicians + volunteers to ensure safety and shop procedures are being adhered to on a daily basis during their residence. ,
\x95As production build schedules allow, assist other departments in non-production related technical tasks i.e. Gala, Fashion Show, Awards Night, outdoor displays, lobby displays, and Volunteer Picnic preparation, etc. ,
\x95Conduct inventory of shop supplies on a timely basis and inform the Technical Director of needed supplies.,
\x95Conduct inventory of shop hand and powers tools and inform Technical Director of any missing or broken tools in a timely manner.,
\x95Submitting in a timely fashion, all shop expenditures to the Technical Director. ,

Work Conditions: ,
\x95 Ability to work long hours and work with a flexible schedule. ,
\x95 May have to work at heights, around moving machinery, and with exposure to noise, vibration, and dust. ,
\x95 Must be willing to travel and work at various sites. ,
\x95 Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions while using the appropriate safety procedures. ,
\x95 Ability to work safely in an environment containing potentially hazardous electrical equipment, fumes, and/or materials. ,

Physical Demands: ,
\x95 This position may move/carry theatrical scenery, wood and steel deliveries, load scenery onto and off trucks weighing up to 50 pounds. ,
\x95 This position will need to frequently communicate with staff in a noisy shop and theater environment. ,
\x95 This position will need to ascend/descend machinery used and scenery created for the production. ,

Minimum Qualifications:,
\x95Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre or equivalent experience. ,
\x95Excellent skill level in carpentry and metals fabrication. ,
\x95Good organizational and supervisory skills. ,
\x95Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.,
\x95Willingness to adapt to a very flexible work schedule.,
\x95Qualifications:,
\x95Working knowledge of all aspects of the theatre process \x96 production and technical as well as performance.,
\x95Ability to work productively under severe time pressures and meet deadlines.,
\x95Understanding of scenery and structural design, engineering, and construction process and styles, elements and practices \x96 i.e. proscenium, thrust, arena, black box; wood, metal, plastic, adhesives; construction, painting, purchasing, rigging, CAD, etc.,
\x95Knowledge of mechanical physics, fundamental electricity, modern construction practices/materials, and stage crafts including rigging, lighting, and stage carpentry.,
\x95Use power and hand tools accurately and effectively.,

Preferred Qualifications:,
\x95Two years of experience shop foreman in a producing theatrical venue or scenic studio.,
\x95Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. ,
\x95Experience working in a scene shop of a regional theatre.,
\x95Understanding of AutoCAD, Vectorworks, or other CAD software.,
\x95Possession of a valid driver\x92s license by time of employment. ,
\x95Ability to work well with people. ,
\x95Has personal and professional integrity and an exemplary work ethic.,
