Assistant Technical Director,
May 7- August 5,
The Assistant Technical Director is a key leadership role within the mainstage season at Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. The TD is available to help advise and work through options but the ATD must be ready to handle full drafting assignments and work independently. Additional day to day responsibilities include providing leadership on the shop floor and especially during install, coordinating expenses with production management, communicating with designers especially once they are on site and coordinating build space usage with the Charge Artist and Props Master. ,
The TD, ATD and Shop Foreman work closely together to ensure a smooth and inclusive work environment at all times. Safety remains our top priority. Our next priorities remain maintaining work schedules and finding ways to push our work quality to the top even with multiple ongoing projects. ,

Shop Foreman,

The Foreman reports directly to the Technical Director. Helps to set long term and daily deadlines and schedules. Will have hands on all production builds throughout the season but the primary responsibility is for supervising the carpenters, maintaining the shop, maintaining supply + material inventories, working out build techniques and teaching new and/or advanced skillsets to the newer carps. Exact construction needs and skills will vary per season but tend to remain in the realm of standard theatrical skills. Welding and/or rigging experience is important as well but is more atypical. Solid communication skills, being comfortable with long hours, while maintaining safety practices, and sharing workspace are all important. Must be capable of teaching on the go. Must be accustomed to meeting hard deadlines.,

Master Carpenter,

The master carp reports directly to the Shop Foreman. Works alongside the Foreman to coordinate with the TD on build decisions. Helps to set long term and daily deadlines. Will have hands on all production builds throughout the season. Exact construction needs and skills will vary per season but tend to remain in the realm of standard theatrical skills. Welding and/or rigging experience is required as well. Solid communication skills, being comfortable with long hours, while maintaining safety practices, and sharing workspace are all important. Must be capable of teaching young carpenters on the go. Must be accustomed to meeting hard deadlines.,

We are hiring multiple full season carpenters. All carpenters report to the Shop Foreman + Master Carpenter and will have hands on all production throughout the season. Exact construction needs and skills will vary per season but tend to remain in the realm of standard theatrical skills. Welding and/or rigging experience a plus. Must be comfortable with long hours, tight working quarters and maintaining positive work conditions.,

Deck Chief ,

The deck chief will work in the shop at the start of the contract and then transition into performance duties with shop support when tech begins. Ability to lead a crew, train more novice crew members, promote a safe working environment, and assist in supervising repertory changeovers required. Prior regional theater and repertory experience a plus. Maintaining a positive attitude and encouraging a positive experience for all involved during the long hours during changeover is vital.,

Scenic Charge Artist,

Charge Artist supervises the scenic artist and intern, works with all scenic designers to determine the best treatment options for all paint needs and coordinates with the scene shop on space/set piece sharing. Exact needs vary widely from season to season. Charge Artist must come with a variety of skills to meet those needs and be comfortable trying new techniques on the go. With a very busy season with a lot of deadlines the scenic department is often on an opposite schedule working late nights or overnights in order to keep base with the build. ,
