The Gateway Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County is seeking CARPENTERS for its 2020 season. The Gateway Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County is a professional non-profit theater located roughly 55 miles east of New York City on Long Island in Bellport, NY. We work in two main theaters, the Gateway Playhouse, our 500-seat home theater, and the Patchogue Theater for the Performing Arts, the 1200 seat road house, where we present at least two shows in each season. Salary is negotiable, and on-site housing is provided. Gateway will also assist with transportation to and from its location in New York. The Carpentry department, the largest technical department, is looking for well-rounded stage hands and technicians with experience in multiple positions to be hired as a Staff Carpenter for The Gateway. ,

Staff Carpenter Job Responsibilities include:,
-Loading in and changing over technical elements or each production.,
-Constructing scenery on an as needed basis.,
-Constructing/refurbishing sets that have been rented for a production.,
-Refurbishing sets for our rental department,
-Being a part of the run crew as needed for each production.,
-Loading, unloading, and cross loading of scenic trailers.,
-Keeping the Scenic shop and work areas clean and safe.,

All carpenters will occasionally help in other areas of production on an as needed basis, due to the fact that it is the largest technical department at The Gateway. Staff positions in all departments will be expected to work alongside interns and to promote a healthy and safe work/learning environment. ,

Qualifications:,

\x95 Knowledge of Theatrical building techniques.,
\x95 Ability to read scenic drawing and build plans.,
\x95 Capacity to solve problems,
\x95 Must have good communication skills and be a team player,
\x95 Maturity and understanding of the artistic process,
\x95 Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others,
\x95 Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail,
\x95 Driver\x92s license,
\x95 Rigging/Flying (hemp and counter weight fly systems),
\x95 Metal Working and Welding skills a plus,
\x95 Ability to safely lift 60+ pounds.,
\x95 Managerial or mentoring experience is a plus.,
