Scene Shop Foreperson:,

The Public Theater is looking for a self-motivated individual to join the Scenery Foreperson team. This is a Seasonal Overhire Position, and this person will work in conjunction with two other Forepersons, across three spaces. The Public has three shops across the city, all operating at the space time at any given point in the season, and the Foreperson position is key in facilitating the communication and scenic logistics between all locations. The Foreperson reports directly to the Technical Director and the Assistant Technical Directors, and the ideal candidate will be extremely organized and self-directed in terms of day-to-day tasks. The Scenery office relies heavily on our Forepersons to aid and assist the carpentry and scenic crews in the organization and flow of the shop space, to inventory and maintain the stock of standard hardware and standard build materials, as well as fostering a collaborative and safe working environment. ,

The Foreperson Duties Include: ,
-Maintaining an efficient workspace in terms of project layout and space management, negotiating among crews and departments ,
-Keeping up with tool/ machine upkeep, maintenance and repairs,
-Maintaining a standard tool and hardware inventory for the Scene Shops as well as upkeep of all roving toolboxes for spaces,
-Communicating with the Scenery Office any and all information regarding space needs, season shop purchases, hardware and material needs, as well as trucking, facility and safety needs.,
-Tracking inventory of shop materials, including show/ department specific lumber and steel orders ,
-Assists other departments and crews in shop-specific tasks (Including proper tool usage, proper hoisting practices, and answering any questions as they come up),
-Supervises daily maintenance, cleanliness and safety of the shop by assigning end of the day cleaning tasks to various crew members ,
-Maintaining an orderly and safe working environment, including the enforcement of the Public Theater\x92s safety policies regarding hardhats, genies, scaffolding and hoisting.,
-Promoting a collaborative, inclusive and respectful working environment as outline in the Public Theater\x92s Code of Conduct ,

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:,
-2+ years of professional theater leadership experience ,
-Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks (I.E. how to read and interpret build/space drawings),
-Thorough knowledge of carpentry, welding, rigging and general soft goods maintenance ,
-Must be able to lift/carry 75 lbs, and is comfortable working at heights of 15\x92+ on ladders or personnel lifts,
-Ability to use and maintenance standard woodworking hand tools and power tools (Saws, routers, pneumatic fastening tools, MIG welders, etc.) ,
-MIG welding and general metal working experience ,
-Space and material organizational skills are a must.,
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills ,
-An ideal candidate would have leadership ability, team-working skills and a strong, self-motivated work ethic. ,
-May work some late nights/ weekends,
